A makeshift memorial of flowers, candles, stuffed animals and Hershey’s candy bars surrounded the alley on Friday where a 29-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run in City Heights.
The woman, Jasmine Leigh Ruiz, died at about 10 a.m. Wednesday after San Diego police say she was “deliberately” struck by a vehicle following a physical assault.
Continuing the investigation, police on Friday released new details in the killing. They said a violent altercation preceded the hit and run in the alley off Orange and Wilson avenues. Then, a white Toyota Camry hit Ruiz, dragging her down the alley.
Two men and a woman covered in blood ran away from the Camry. Investigators are unsure how the woman is connected to the case, as she ran in a different direction than the men.
Investigators are examining a surveillance video of the suspects in the alley as they continue the probe. No arrests have been made.
Investigators are continuing to interview possible witnesses and still need the public’s help in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the department’s homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
